Did someone say Gelato?

La Fenice is a welcomed treat on Westport’s Main Street

If you’re anything like me, the only logical nourishment on a muggy summer night is ice cream -- better yet, gelato or sorbet. Well, 203, we happen to be in luck: La Fenice and Cold Fusion both recently opened on Main Street, satisfying customers’ taste buds with only the highest quality of frozen treats.

La Fenice, located at 49 Main Street, opened their third location on June 18. They offer 24 flavors of gelato and sorbet along with pastries such as scones and croissants. La Fenice is what some would call authentically Italian: everything except the fruit is imported from Italy. Speaking from personal experience, their gelato is rich and heavenly. The coffee and Nutella each are the perfect mix of creamy and flavorful -- the perfect refreshment. However, the chocolate flavors are so rich that a fruit gelato is also a necessary part of the serving. A fan favorite in my household has to be the strawberry gelato, and the blackberry one is also a valid choice. La Fenice has the cutest decorations and is overall a very deserving place of a location on Main Street.

Cold Fusion, owned by Westporters Eric and Kelly Emmert, opened on July 8, serving 32 flavors of handmade gelato and sorbet, with all-natural, locally sourced ingredients. During their first four days of business, my family already went three times, and this is what we’ve learned: the hidden gem is the caramelized banana gelato. This perfectly compliments either the dark chocolate sorbet, or, if you’re feeling slightly more flavorful, the dark chocolate sea salt gelato. However, another respectable route is the more healthy assortment of sorbets. The blueberry pomegranate, mixed berry, and raspberry sorbets are each refreshing and gratifying. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll be served by a smiling Staples student, scooping a generous amount of gelato or sorbet into each serving. Cold Fusion is the perfect place to support a local business and enjoy some sweet treats made with love.
