A new gathering spot at the beach - Old Mill Grocery & Deli

Growing up in Westport, I would always go by Elvira‘s with my friends and get the best egg wrap in the world. When I was at the beach, it was a fun hang- out place. Unfortunately, it closed and the new owners closed it as well.  Fortunately, it has been re-blanked and now old Mill deli and grocery is back better than ever!

First, a little history: Operating under a grandfathered permit, OMG&D is unique and impossible to replicate under current zoning regulations.  If not preserved, it would have been replaced by a residential structure. It was saved by a group of Westporters who made it into a nonprofit to keep its history alive.

Since OMG&D has been saved, Granola Bar owners are operating it.  When I walked in, I was struck first by the merchandising. They offer so many great snacks, drinks, chips, sweets, and even a section with dog treats!

The menu offerings are different than the Granola Bar, yet still healthy and organic. They offer breakfast sandwiches, smoothies, sandwiches and wraps, salads, pizza, and of course coffee. even pasta. My favorite things I have tried are the bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, the avocado toast and the pizza.

Even more interesting, OMG&D will be training and hiring disabled individuals. Often disabled workers are not given the opportunity to be in the working pool so this is a wonderful opportunity for them and as our community as a whole.

Come on down to OMG&D!
